Transferring AS registration to a different CB; not as easy as it used to be.
For a while now, transferring registration to a different CB (Certification Body) was an easy process and not associated with any additional costs.
Well, those days are over for Aerospace customers.
Effective with the new release of AS9104, AS transfers will require at least a day transfer audit (off-site) for all CB transfers. This means that transferring any AS registration (AS9100, AS9110, AS9120, etc.) will result in a minimum fee. This fee is dependent on the current daily rate fees of the CB in question, which is generally between $1400.00 and $1700.00.
What if I transfer right before an upcoming surveillance audit or re-certification audit? Simply put, that does not matter. If you transfer prior to a surveillance audit, the fee will still be assessed. If you transfer prior to a re-certification audit, you will have to go through a Stage 1 and Stage 2 audit just as if you were getting certified for the first time. Cost of transferring during a re-certification visit will result in a cost of between 1-2 billable days at the CB’s daily rate, which will be around $2800.00-$3200.00.
So with that said, make sure you really want to transfer before you agree to it. Another way is to ask the new CB to drop other fees for the first year or two to offset cost. Never hurts to ask!
